Ruto Outlines 3 Steps to Make Kenya a First-World Nation

President William Ruto has outlined the three things Kenya must do to join the league of first-world countries.

Ruto said this is the moment, the generation, and the opportunity to move Kenya to the next level.

He explained that Kenya does not have enough energy to transform into a first-world country.

Ruto stated that Kenya has only 2,300 megawatts, and there is not enough power during peak hours.

“We urgently need 10,000 megawatts of energy as a matter of urgency within the next 5 to 7 years if we have to move Kenya to the next level. To generate this, we need something like a KSh1 trillion; it is not a lot of money, we can find,” Ruto said.

No Importation of Food

Besides, Ruto said the government must stop importing food into Kenya.

He stated that his administration has stabilized the agriculture sector to ensure food security, but more needs to be done.

“We also need to stop importing food into Kenya. As I talk to you, we are spending Ksh500 billion to import food. We have done well to stabilize the food security in Kenya, but it is not enough,” he said.

Ruto said the government must move to irrigation and build 50 mega dams to ensure food security.

He explained that this will allow Kenya to irrigate 2 million acres to ensure food security and produce even more for exports to markets the government has negotiated.

Ruto Calls for More Infrastructure

Additionally, Ruto said the government must build more infrastructure, including roads, rails, and an airport.

“We don’t have an airport today; we have a makeshift something on the runway at JKIA, and we are busy with a conversation. Useless conversations, we need to be serious.

“We need to do more infrastructure. We need to do a minimum of 1,000 metres of dual carriage in Kenya. We need to expand rail infrastructure. We need to do an airport in JKIA and possibly another one here in Konza. We need close to Ksh1.5 trillion to achieve that,” he added.
