Two Suspected Phone Snatchers Arrested in Mandera East, Phones Recovered

Two suspected phone snatchers have been arrested and placed in police custody after National Police Service (NPS) officers recovered stolen mobile phones during an intelligence-led operation in Mandera East Sub-County.
The suspects were arrested following a crackdown conducted by security officers in the Kona B area of Mandera Town, where they are believed to have been operating as part of a local phone-snatching syndicate.
“Two suspected phone snatchers found in possession of stolen mobile phones have been placed in police custody following a successful operation by National Police Service officers in Mandera East Sub-County,” the National Police Service said.
The operation was launched after officers received intelligence reports linking the suspects to a series of phone theft incidents reported within the area.
“Acting on intelligence, the officers conducted an operation in the Kona B area of Mandera Town, leading to the arrest of the two suspects, who are believed to be members of a local phone-snatching syndicate,” NPS stated.
Stolen Mobile Phones Recovered in Mandera
Following the arrest, police officers carried out a search at the suspects’ rented house in Kona B.
The search resulted in the recovery of four mobile phones suspected of having been stolen from members of the public.
“Following the arrest, the officers searched the suspects’ rented house in Kona B and recovered four stolen mobile phones,” the police service said.
The recovered phones were taken into police custody as investigations continued to establish the full extent of the suspects’ activities and whether they were connected to other reported cases of phone theft in Mandera and surrounding areas.

Owners Identify Recovered Phones
Police later traced the owners of the recovered devices, allowing victims to reclaim their property after positively identifying the phones at the police station.

“The officers subsequently traced the rightful owners, who visited the police station and positively identified their phones,” NPS confirmed.
Authorities have continued to encourage members of the public to report criminal incidents and provide information that can assist investigations.
“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to serving and protecting the public. Operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks will continue across the country,” NPS said.
