Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has slammed the incident at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi and vowed a determined clampdown on the gangs, stating security forces “will exterminate this threat”.
Speaking on Sunday, June 14, Murkomen said the incident was unfortunate and unacceptable.
“We know that they were captured on a CCTV camera. The DCI is already analyzing that CCTV camera, a number of them,” said Murkomen.
He confirmed arrests had been made. “One of them was arrested immediately, and a number being arrested; we will take those people to court, and they will be held to account.”
Murkomen said the incident is linked to a wider security operation targeting gangs in Nairobi and beyond.
“Our next phase of security operation is to exterminate this threat of gangs,” he said. “I want to promise the nation that with the Nairobi Metropolitan Police and with the efforts we have put in place to fight gangs, these gangs, we are going to succeed.”

Police Operations and Enhanced Security Measures, Coupled with Suspicious Activity at All-Saints Cathedral
He said he supported operations carried out in Nakuru and Kitale, which he said were becoming difficult towns.
“We have already succeeded in a number of towns, including Nakuru, including Kitale, which was becoming a very difficult town.”
“With the strength of police officers who are going to graduate in September, about 10,000 police officers that we recruited recently, that strength will enable us to do a better job and to make our cities a safer place to live in.”
The surveillance footage showed motorbikes with two to three men each arriving at the All-Saints Cathedral at around 3.39 pm on 12th June 2026.
Their entry to the compound, the number plate captured by cameras located around the church building, forced the men in through the gate.
They then fled leaving the motorbikes only to return on foot shortly before 4.11 pm after leaving the motorbikes.

Arrests and Ongoing Pursuit of Suspects Following Chaos at All Saints Cathedral
Shortly after the warning, several suspects were arrested following chaos at All Saints Cathedral while others are still on the run as security agencies pursue them, CS Interior Kipchumba Murkomen stated.
“Whereas the country is safe and secure, the nation continues to experience goonism by actors across the political spectrum, evidenced by last Sunday’s lamentable episode at All Saints Cathedral,” Murkomen stated in a tweet on X.
The CS also highlighted the government’s initiative to recognize the roles of village elders in grassroots leadership by affording them a monthly stipend starting from the next financial year so as to enhance community policing.
This statement comes after the CS had attended a church service and celebrated the 50th anniversary and Golden Jubilee of the AIC Plainview in Nairobi, where he lauded the church for 50 years of services and for their contribution to the development
