Ugandan National Arrested as DCI Seizes Cannabis Hidden in Truck on Naivasha Highway

A 40-year-old Ugandan national has been arrested by DCI after detectives intercepted a truck carrying cannabis sativa along the Maai Mahiu-Naivasha highway in a fresh crackdown on drug trafficking.

The suspect, identified as Daniel Musubo, was arrested on Sunday, June 14, after detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) acted on intelligence reports and mounted an operation along the Longonot stretch of the highway.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers intercepted a Scania truck bearing registration number UBN 042 and conducted a search.

The search led to the discovery of three bales of cannabis sativa that had been concealed inside the truck’s cabin and toolbox.

Musubo was arrested at the scene, while the truck and the recovered narcotics were escorted to Muthaiga Police Station as investigations continued.

Police said the suspect is undergoing processing and will be arraigned in court once the investigations are complete.

DCI Intensifies Anti-Narcotics Operations Across Kenya

The arrest comes amid a series of anti-drug operations targeting trafficking networks operating across Kenya.

In recent weeks, DCI detectives arrested four suspects in Nairobi, including Serbian and Tanzanian nationals, during an intelligence-led operation linked to narcotics trafficking.

Officers recovered suspected cannabis and equipment believed to have been used in drug distribution activities.

Earlier this year, detectives also arrested a Ugandan national in Malaba after recovering 17 bales of cannabis sativa concealed in luggage during a border operation.

Authority Appeals for Public Support

The DCI has urged members of the public to continue sharing information that can help investigators combat drug trafficking and related crimes.

The agency encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities anonymously through its toll-free hotline and official reporting channels as security agencies intensify the fight against narcotics across the country.

“Fichua Kwa DCI. Call 0800 722 203 (Toll-free) or WhatsApp at 0709 570 000 to report anonymously. Usiogope!” the agency said.
