Commonwealth Games Hopefuls Put on a Show as NPS Bags Medal After Medal

The National Police Service (NPS) sealed their authority as an athletic powerhouse in Kenyan running with numerous top finishes on Day 2 of the National Athletics Championships held at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Athletes from across the nation participated for national honors and lucrative slots at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in a fierce contest that saw the NPS team outshine their rivals in a variety of sprint, jumping, throwing and distance events.
Field events provided significant glory for NPS with Nancy Kanini bagging the gold medal in the women’s hammer throw and Winny Langat taking first place in the women’s pole vault.
NPS Athletes Win Medals in Javelin, Discus, Long Jump, and Track events
Irene Jepkemboi, for her part, performed impressively in the javelin while Titus Kiptoo Limo contributed a silver medal in the discus to the Service’s overall haul.
“The team was well prepared and delivered the planned performance. We’re extremely proud to represent the Service and the country at this event,” enthused an NPS coach on the sidelines.
NPS also dominated the long jump competition, where Isaac Kirwa Yego secured the men’s gold, while Ida Jepkorir grabbed a bronze in the women’s section.
In the high jump, Abed Kiprotich Langat came in third after Kenya Defence Forces’ Asbel Kiprop and Kenya Prisons’ Patrick Murimi.
In track events, Diana Wanza brought home a silver in the women’s 10,000m, while Daniel Simiu Ebenyo demonstrated exceptional resolve in the men’s 10,000m despite facing some challenges towards the end of the race.
The sprinters set the stadium alight with impressive performances, with Millicent Ndoro easily winning her women’s 100m semi-final and teammate Eunice Kadogo also qualifying for the next round.
Ferdinand Omanyala and Clinton Aluvi were particularly impressive in the men’s 100m, while Mary Moraa, Mercy Chebet and Hellen Syombua put up a fight in the women’s 400m.

Athletes Advance to Finals and Winning Relay Semi-Finals at Nyayo National Stadium
Brian Tinega and Danson Kibet represented NPS in the men’s 400m.
The 400m hurdles saw Eric Kimathi, Mpoke Moitalel and Kipkorir Rotich advancing to the next stage in the men’s race.
Dennis Mwai, Clinton Aluvi and Ronald Koech earned their places in the men’s 200m final.
Reigning Commonwealth champion Wycliffe Kinyamal successfully navigated his way to the men’s 800m final, teeing up an exciting encounter.
The Service rounded off the day on a high note by winning the men’s 4x400m and 4x100m relay semi-finals.
“As we move into today’s finals, the competition for medals and Commonwealth Games qualification slots remains open for all,” the NPS said in a statement. “The NPS has a number of athletes in excellent form who are primed for a strong challenge, so it is going to be an action-packed day at Nyayo National Stadium.”
