Graduate Beaten to Death After Girlfriend Accuses Him of Theft

A young college graduate has been killed in Keroka Kisii county after villagers thought he was a thief.

The man who has been identified as Amos Mannaseh 24 years old, was beaten by members of the public because his girlfriend said he was a thief.

Amos who worked at a petrol station in Keroka, had reportedly disagreed with his girlfriend and later went to her home to collect a gas cylinder he had recently gifted her.

According to reports, the girlfriend raised an alarm claiming that a thief had entered her home.

Mob Justice

The girlfriend then started shouting “thief” and that is when the villagers responded to her distress call and found Amos at the scene.

Amid the confusion the residents allegedly beat Amos and stoned him to death thinking he was a thief, he later succumbed due to the injuries he had sustained due to the beating.

There is no official report from the police but an investigation is expected to take place to determine the cause of the matter.

The tragic incident has reignited concerns over mob justice and the need for communities to allow law enforcement agencies to handle suspected criminal cases.

The case has sparked conversation online on how mob justice can kill people who are innocent and how people should allow the police to do their jobs

“You buy things for people and then when you disagree with them you immediately go for stuff you bought? Learn to let go,” Mark commented.

“Sad story. The man went to take what belongs to him possibly due to betrayal, was called a thief by someone she once trusted, called him a thief and left people kill this man!!Sad,” Teweniter said.

Cases of mob justice are increasingly rising in Kenya especially in rural areas where people think it is best to beat thieves before police arrive.

Authorities have always warn Kenyans to call the police in times when a thief has been caught and let the authorities handle the matter according to the law.
