Nairobi County is carrying out an inspection and enforcement exercise across all its 17 sub-counties to compel business operators to adhere to the Nairobi City County Trade Licensing Act, 2019.

The County Government has started verifying licenses, tracing undercharges, and imposing penalties for outstanding or non-compliant Trade Licenses across the city.

Ag. County Secretary and Head of County Public Service Godfrey Akumali stated that the exercise intends to safeguard the County revenue from the Unified Business Permits, which are vital in funding development projects and services across the county, as well as ensure a level playing field for all businesses operating in Nairobi.

Nairobi City County Trade License Renewal and Payment Procedures

County officials have embarked on visits to various business premises in their areas of jurisdiction to confirm that they have valid licenses to trade as per the law.

Businesses operating without renewed trade licenses contravene Section 26(3) of the Trade Licensing Act, 2019, which stipulates a penalty of a fine of up to Ksh 50,000 or a jail term of up to three months or both.

Nairobi City County is instructing all business owners to renew their Unified Business Permits through the Nairobi Pay Portal.

All payments will only be accepted digitally, meaning there is a no-cash policy on all County revenue.

Payments can also be made via M-Pesa Paybill 6060047 with the invoice number as account number, deposit to Equity Bank Account 1600284509139 or Sidian Bank Account 01003710009942, both accounts registered as Nairobi City County Revenue Collection Account.
