According to the commission, the arrests followed a complaint from a taxpayer who revealed that the two officials had demanded Ksh3 million in exchange for influencing the resolution of a Capital Gains Tax assessment valued at Ksh4.5 million.

“The suspects, Faith Gathoni Njoroge and Tyson Marango Owuor, both based at KRA’s Upper Hill offices, were arrested following a complaint that they had demanded Ksh 3 million from a taxpayer in exchange for influencing the resolution of a Capital Gains Tax assessment amounting to Ksh 4.5 million,” read part of the statement.

EACC further stated that the officials allegedly promised to assist in resolving the tax matter in return for the payment.

In response to the complaint, the commission launched an operation targeting the suspects, where they were allegedly caught receiving Ksh 900,000, which was said to be part of the demanded bribe amount.

However, the money was recovered as evidence, and the suspects were immediately arrested.

EACC disclosed that the two suspects are currently being processed at the Integrity Centre as investigations continue.

The Commission further noted that appropriate action will be taken upon conclusion of the investigations in accordance with the Anti-Bribery Act, 2016.
