The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has issued an agrometeorological outlook for June 21–30, 2026, warning farmers and pastoralists across the country about mixed weather conditions that will influence farming activities during the dekad.

To begin with, the report shows uneven rainfall distribution, with only selected regions receiving meaningful precipitation while most parts of the country remain dry.

This situation will influence soil moisture levels, crop development, and livestock productivity across different regions.

“Rainfall is expected over the Coast and parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, while generally dry conditions are expected across most parts of the country,” the bulletin stated.

This highlights a split weather pattern where rainfall concentrates in a few areas while dry conditions dominate most of the country.

Kenya Met Warns of Moisture and Temperature Variations

In terms of soil conditions, rainfall will determine moisture availability.

Areas that receive rainfall will maintain adequate soil moisture, supporting crop growth.

In contrast, dry regions will experience reduced soil moisture, leading to increased water stress on crops and reduced pasture regeneration for livestock

Temperature conditions will also vary across the country as some highland areas will experience cool and cloudy weather, while northern Kenya will remain relatively hot.

As a result, evaporation rates will increase in warmer regions, which will affect water availability for crops and livestock.

At the same time, agricultural activities continue at different stages across the country as farmers grow maize at flowering, wax ripening, and maturity stages depending on their region.

In addition, farmers in Thika and Meru have already completed bean harvesting as crop conditions remain stable in areas such as Dagoretti, Katumani, and Mtwapa.

Advisory to Farmers on Crop and Livestock Care

Farmers and livestock keepers must take precautionary measures to reduce losses and improve productivity.

“Livestock farmers should ensure adequate water supplies and provide supplementary feed where pasture is declining,” Kenya Met stated.

Farmers must also stay alert and respond quickly to changing weather conditions.

“Continue monitoring weather updates and follow guidance from agricultural extension officers for timely farming decisions,” the advisory stated.

Finally, the Kenya Meteorological Department urges farmers to use weather forecasts actively when planning farm operations.

This will help protect crops and livestock during this period of changing weather conditions.
