How to Report a Lost Cargo at Mombasa Port
Share
Importers and cargo owners who discover that their consignments are missing at the Port of Mombasa should act promptly by notifying their clearing agents, tracking their cargo through the appropriate channels, and reporting the loss to the relevant authorities.
The first step is to contact a licensed clearing and forwarding agent, who can help trace the consignment using the port’s integrated systems. The agent can verify the cargo’s last recorded movement, review the relevant documents, and determine whether it has been relocated.
The Kenya Ports Authority also provides online services that allow customers to track their consignments and access other port-related services.
Through the KPA eCitizen portal, customers can track their consignment using information like Bill of Lading numbers.
Steps to Take In Case of Missing Cargo
Cargo owners must ensure they have all details about their shipment when making the complaint.
These include the Bill of Lading number, container number, shipping line particulars, weight of cargo, identification marks, and other documents that can be used to carry out the investigation.
After having contacted the clearing agent, one needs to send an inquiry regarding the missing cargo to the Kenya Ports Authority Customer Care Department.
