The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued fresh directives to principals regarding the registration of Grade 10 learners on the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal.
In a notice released on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, KNEC announced that schools that successfully registered as Senior School assessment centres have now been allowed to register their Grade 10 learners for School-Based Assessment (SBA).
“Following the closure of registration of Senior School assessment centres, KNEC wishes to bring the following to the attention of Principals,” read part of the notice.
KNEC Opens CBA Portal for Grade 10 Registration
According to KNEC, principals of registered schools should access the CBA portal through the official web address: https://cba.knec.ac.ke.

The examinations council directed school heads to use the new universal centre code that was generated during the registration of Senior School assessment centres as both the username and password when logging into the portal.
“Registered centres have been enabled to register Grade 10 learners on the portal for School-Based Assessment (SBA),” KNEC said in the notice.
After accessing the portal, principals are required to register all Grade 10 learners within the stipulated period. KNEC further noted that the registration exercise will close on July 30, 2026.
The latest directive comes after KNEC recently concluded the registration of Senior School assessment centres as preparations for the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) continue across the country.
Features Available on the Council’s CBA Portal
The KNEC Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal allows schools to register learners and manage assessment-related activities under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
School administrators can access the portal using their email address or centre code together with a password. The portal also includes “Remember me” and “Forgot password” options.

The portal has a “Login as Primary & Junior School Parent/Guardian” section, which KNEC says can be used by parents to check learners’ registration status.
Before signing in, users are required to confirm that they are Heads of Institutions or authorised representatives permitted to register candidates on behalf of their schools.
The declaration on the portal states that personal data collected from learners, including minors, will be processed only for the administration of assessments in accordance with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019, and will be kept private and confidential.
The portal also lists contact email addresses for different assessment levels. Queries related to KPSEA can be sent to kpsea@knec.ac.ke, KJSEA inquiries to js@knec.ac.ke, while Senior School-related issues can be directed to seniorschool@knec.ac.ke.
