A Kibera court has issued a warrant of arrest against former National Economic Development Party (NEDP) Executive Director Daniel Mokua Onsomu after he repeatedly failed to appear in court to answer fraud charges.

The warrant was issued by the Kibera Chief Magistrate’s Court following Onsomu’s absence during scheduled court mentions on June 11 and June 24, 2026.

Daniel Onsomu is facing charges of obtaining Ksh 2.05 million by false pretences from Daniel Nyakundi Osiemo between September 8 and October 6, 2022.

Daniel Onsomu Faces Arrest as Kibera Court Rejects Adjournment Request

Prosecutors allege that Onsomu obtained the money by falsely claiming he could help the complainant obtain information relating to a parcel of land, a representation they say he knew to be untrue at the time.

During the June 24 mention, Onsomu’s advocate, Mose Nyambega, sought an adjournment through a letter dated June 22, where he informed the court that his client had sustained a knee injury in an accident, making him unable to attend court proceedings.

Nyambega also indicated that the injury had affected his ability to effectively conduct the matter, but the court declined the request for an adjournment.

Instead, the magistrate directed the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Lang’ata Police Station to trace, arrest, and present Onsomu before the court.

Earlier, the party’s leader and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko had suspended party activities amid allegations that some officials were soliciting money from aspirants seeking opportunities within the party.

The matter is scheduled for mention on July 23, 2026.

During the next session, the court is expected to receive a progress report on efforts by police to locate and arrest Onsomu following the issuance of the warrant.
