The separation between Ugandan socialite and businesswoman Zarinah Hassan, popularly known as Zari The Boss Lady, and her husband Shakib Cham continues to attract public attention across East Africa following their recent breakup announcement.

Shakib and Zari’s divorce has taken a new turn as Shakib now demands half of the property and money they acquired together during their marriage before going their separate ways.

He says that part of the multimillion-dollar property was acquired due to their merged efforts as a couple.

Zari has, however, rubbished the claims, saying she accumulated enough money and property for herself before entering into a relationship with Shakib.

Property War

And that, she has not acquired any property during their stay together.

Earlier in June, Zari announced that she and Shakib had decided to end their relationship after five years together, saying that they have differences unable to reconcile.

In a statement shared on social media, she said the decision had been reached after careful thought and reflection and described the separation as the best path forward for both of them.

However, shortly after the announcement, Shakib publicly expressed surprise at the news, stating that he had learned about the breakup through social media like everyone else.

Their Breakup

Speaking in an interview, he said he had not been involved in the announcement and needed time to understand the situation.

His remarks appeared to contradict the impression that the separation had been jointly communicated.

Shakib has on several occasions denied separating from Zari, saying he knows he has a wife called Zari, and the claims of their separation got her off guard on social media, just like everyone else. He doesn’t know of such a thing.

The former couple got married in a private Islamic Nikkah ceremony in 2023 and had become one of East Africa’s most closely followed celebrity couples before suddenly announcing their separation in June 2026.

Their separation continues making headlines on social media as their fans express disbelief, and as the story continues circulating, conversations around celebrity marriages and divorce have intensified.
