Skincare Mistakes Most Kenyan Ladies Make Without Knowing
Share
Many Kenyan women unknowingly make skincare mistakes that damage their skin and prevent it from being healthy and thriving.
While social media trends and homemade remedies may seem appealing, healthy skin is usually built on consistency, patience, and using products that actually suit your skin type.
In Kenya’s climate, where heat, cold dust, and strong sunlight are common, good skincare habits are most important.
Lacking Sunscreen
One of the most common mistakes many people make is skipping wearing sunscreen.
Many people believe that sunscreen is only worn to the beach or whenever the sun is out.
Lacking sunscreen can cause the UV rays to damage your skin; hence, if you want healthy skin, you should invest in a good sunscreen.
Over Cleansing
Over-cleansing the face is another mistake people make. Cleansing the face many times strips off its natural oils and may cause dryness.
This may leave the skin feeling dry and irritated and can even trigger excess sebum production, which can cause pimples or acne.
Using Wrong Skincare Products
Using skincare products that are not suitable for your skin type can also damage your skin.
If a person with dry skin uses products for oily skin, it may cause their skin to be even drier and lack moisture.
Skin experts recommend doing a skin analysis to determine your skin type before getting skincare products that will work well on your skin.
Exfoliating Too Often
While exfoliation removes dead skin cells and improves skin texture, doing it daily or using harsh scrubs can damage the skin barrier.
When the skin barrier is damaged, it can cause pimples or acne and also dryness and stubbornness to absorb products.
Experts generally recommend exfoliating one to three times a week, depending on your skin type and the product being used.
Sleeping With Makeup
Sleeping with makeup clogs pores and can cause acne. Cleansing makeup before bed helps pores to breathe.
Cleansing the face before bed also removes makeup products, sweat, sunscreen, and dirt that accumulate throughout the day.
Bad Lifestyle Habits
Having bad lifestyle habits such as not drinking enough water, not eating a balanced diet and lacking exercise can contribute to having skin problems.
For healthy skin, one should focus on drinking at least two litres of water in a day, eating a balanced diet, and getting at least seven hours of sleep.
Healthy skin is not achieved overnight or through one skincare product in a day.
