Amsons Group is going to invest Ksh 4.5 billion in developing 10 Level 4 Mother and Child hospitals in Kenya under a project that aims at enhancing the mother’s health through reducing maternal and child deaths.
The initiative, announced through a partnership with the Government of Kenya, will see modern healthcare facilities established in high-burden counties within the next three years.
The investment, dubbed the Amsons Mama na Mtoto Kwanza project, is designed to expand access to quality maternal and child healthcare by bringing critical services closer to communities that have historically faced healthcare shortages.
The programme focuses on infrastructure development, advanced medical equipment, skilled healthcare teams and long-term integration into county health systems.
Cabinet also gave the green light to the Ksh4.5 billion Mother-and-Child Lifeline Initiative, a partnership with Amsons Group to build 10 Level 4 and Level 5 Mother and Child hospitals at Magadi Road in Nairobi, Galmagalla in Fafi (Garissa), Siakago (Embu), Kisumu County Referral Hospital, Kabichbich (West Pokot), Huruma (Uasin Gishu), Tudor (Mombasa), Bahati (Nakuru), Samburu (Kwale) and Chebunyo (Bomet).
Hospitals to Serve More Than One Million Women and Children
The facilities will be rolled out over three fiscal years—2026/2027, 2027/2028, and 2028/2029, with the aim of strengthening Kenya’s healthcare infrastructure and improving access to emergency maternal and child health services.
Speaking during the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) between the government of Kenya through the Ministry of Health and Amsons Group, President William Ruto welcomed the investment, describing it as a major milestone in Kenya’s healthcare transformation agenda.

While describing the firm’s philanthropic support in advancing Kenya’s maternal health goals as a timely major national milestone, flanked by Amsons Group CEO Edha Nahdi and Ministry of Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, President Ruto said reducing maternal and newborn deaths is a national priority.
“Kenya continues to face maternal health challenges, with 26 counties identified as high-burden areas requiring urgent intervention. The new facilities are expected to provide essential services, including inpatient care, critical referrals, emergency treatment, and specialised medical support,” Ruto noted.
The project will establish 10 hospitals, each designed with a 250-bed capacity, creating a healthcare network capable of supporting more than one million women seeking prenatal and postnatal services, especially in rural and underserved locations.
“The government, through the Ministry of Health and the respective county governments, will provide the necessary support, including staffing and medical supplies,” Ruto added..
Amsons Group Expands Social Investment Commitment
Mother and Child Lifeline Initiative is part of Amsons Group’s wider corporate social responsibility strategy focused on building sustainable infrastructure and improving community welfare across Africa.
The group says the programme goes beyond constructing buildings by creating fully functional healthcare ecosystems.
Initiative supports national health goals by addressing maternal and infant mortality gaps, expanding healthcare access, and strengthening county healthcare systems.
It is also expected to create jobs, improve local capacity, and stimulate economic empowerment around the project areas.
Amsons Group Managing Director Edha Nahdi said the company would invest more than US$3.5 million in the construction of each facility as part of its shared prosperity goals.
“The firm will invest more than US$3.5 million in the construction of each Amsons Mama na Mtoto Kwanza facility as part of its shared prosperity social investment goals,” Amsons Group Managing Director Mr Edha Nahdi said
The investment will cover construction, medical equipment, technology, clinical capacity, and community outreach programmes.

The project’s investment framework targets a complete healthcare system rather than only physical infrastructure.
The company said its subsidiaries operate in several African countries and that the initiative reflects its commitment to supporting development programmes.
“Amsons Group and its 16 subsidiaries operate in more than seven countries in Africa under a shared prosperity model. Under this model, we are committed to playing a key part in Kenya’s first-world transformation journey,” Nahdi said.
National Deployment Plan and Expected Outcome
Phase One deployment will take off in 2026 with the construction of three Level 4 hospitals, and then other facilities in later years.
The hospitals are expected to serve as regional healthcare hubs, supporting mothers, newborns, and families while newborns experience delays caused by long travel distances to access medical care.
Each facility is projected to handle more than 300 patients monthly, with the 10 hospitals creating a potential annual reach of more than one million beneficiaries.
The initiative also includes broader development goals such as job creation, community empowerment programmes, sustainable infrastructure, and integration into county healthcare systems.
“By making the social investment, Amsons Group is stepping up to reduce maternal and infant mortality in some of the 26 high-burden maternal death counties in Kenya,” Nahdi said.
Amsons Group described the programme as a long-term commitment to transform maternal healthcare in Kenya.
“This is not just a healthcare project. It is a national commitment to ensure that every mother, every child, and every community has access to the care they deserve,” the group said.
“Amsons Group is not building hospitals. We are building the future of healthcare in Kenya for mothers not just to survive but to thrive,” Amsons Group added.
