Several people were injured after a vehicle in President William Ruto motorcade was involved in a road accident along the Embu-Meru Highway in Embu County.

The crash occurred at Mutunduri on Sunday, July 5, when a speeding escort vehicle attached to the presidential convoy collided with a lorry, causing panic among motorists and residents in the area.

Witnesses said the escort vehicle was traveling at high speed before the collision.

They added that the impact left several people injured, prompting emergency responders and members of the public to rush to the scene and assist the victims.

The injured were taken to nearby health facilities for treatment.

Bystanders who witnessed the incident claimed that the speeding vehicle from the president’s motorcade struck a civilian vehicle, although the circumstances surrounding the crash have not yet been officially confirmed.

Bystanders Fear Ruto Motorcade Victims Suffered Serious Injuries

The impact of the collision left both vehicles extensively damaged, prompting concern among bystanders, some of whom feared that those in the civilian vehicle may have suffered critical injuries.

The accident occurred as President William Ruto was travelling through Embu County to attend a church service at Full Gospel Churches of Kenya in Gatunduri

The accident also caused a major traffic snarl-up along the busy Embu-Meru Highway as police and emergency teams secured the scene and began clearing the wreckage.

Traffic Disrupted as Convoy Continues to Church Service 

A towing truck was later dispatched to remove the damaged vehicles and restore the flow of traffic. In a video seen by HiviLeo, some witnesses were heard urging authorities to clear the road quickly so that President William Ruto’s convoy could continue its journey without further delay.

The cause of the accident has not yet been officially established, and authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Previous Incident Involving Ruto’s Motorcade

In March 2025, a vehicle in the presidential convoy was involved in a fatal hit-and-run along Ngong Road in Nairobi, where 79-year-old British national Edgar Riches was struck and killed.

Reports indicated that the support vehicle did not stop after the collision, sparking public outrage and prompting police investigations

The latest accident in Embu has once again drawn attention to the safety of presidential motorcades and the risks posed to other road users, particularly when convoys are travelling at high-speed
