Meanwhile, the embassy noted that the security alert covers the entire country, including Nairobi’s Central Business District and other urban centres.
The embassy also encouraged U.S. citizens to remain aware of their surroundings because demonstrations can occur at any time, especially in business districts and along key travel routes.
The alert comes as security agencies prepare for possible July 7 demonstrations, with authorities anticipating increased activity and potential traffic disruptions in affected areas.

Movement Dates Back to 1990 Pro-Democracy Protests
The planned July 7 demonstrations link to Kenya’s historic Saba Saba movement, which began on July 7, 1990, when pro-democracy activists and citizens took to the streets to demand the return of multiparty democracy under the one-party rule of former President Daniel Arap Moi.
The protests marked a major moment in Kenya’s push for political reforms and expanded democratic space.
Since then, July 7 has remained a symbolic date for citizens and activists calling for accountability, governance reforms, and protection of citizens’ rights.
As the demonstrations approach, U.S. citizens in Kenya continue to receive advice to stay alert, follow updates from local authorities and exercise caution when travelling around areas that may experience protests.
