Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will be laid to rest at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County, after the final rites on Sunday, October 19, 2025.

He will be buried beside his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

Raila’s traditional funeral ceremony is currently underway at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST).

3:40 PM – Ruto has revealed that he decided to look for the Raila Odinga because they had similar manifestos. He added that he was Raila’s political student.

“Raila was just not an engineer; he was a political engineer. Among his many students is yours truly, William Ruto
I am very proud that Raila Odinga is being rested when one of his own students, a man he has mentored, is today the president of Kenya”.

2:38 PM – CS Mbadi eulogized Raila Odinga stating that he never betrayed Raila rather he stood by his side.

“I thank God that I never betrayed even when you gave me the sad news that I was not going to be Governor of Homabay County, I still stood behind you because I know why you made that decision.” CS Mbadi said.

1:30 PM – Senator Edwin Sifuna has eulogized Raila Odinga by vowing not to be part of the people who will destroy Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

“As ODM, it’s time to listen to what Kenyans are saying. Raila reminded us that we must prepare for the 2027 election. Some leaders have been spreading rumours, but as Raila asked, ‘Who has told you?’ We are firmly following Raila’s last instruction.”

He has said the party will prepare for the 2027 general election as directed by Raila Odinga on September 22, during a meeting with party leaders.

12:38 PM – MP Millie Odhiambo introduced all Members of Parliament who were present at JOOUST grounds.

12:15 PM – Widow Ida Odinga eulogized his dear husband recalling ups and downs they went through together.

“All the times when he was away either in detention or exile, I knew he would always come back. This time, I will have to join him wherever he has gone because he will never come back but the spirits lives on,” Ida shared.

11:50 AM – Oburu Odinga eulogized his brother stating how he was brave and recounted moments he survived coup.

“The security that has been taking care of Raila has done a great job. I want to plead with you, please give them promotions by one grade,” Oburu said.

11:10 AM – Winnie Odinga eulogized his late father, full of emotions by acknowledging how powerful Bondo is and appreciated how Ruto honored her late father.

“People have been speaking negatively about Bondo; let us prove them wrong by showing that we have a lion,” Winnie said.

“Your Excellency, our people appreciate you for honouring our father. Thank you for standing with us. You should also know that, in case you are wondering, I am ready to come back home,” she added.

10: 45 AM – Bishop send strong message to Raila Odinga’s family and ODM party.

“When you go home honour Raila by not beating your husband or wife because he was a crusader against gender violence.”

Bishop continued: “Mama Ida wait upon the Lord,President Ruto wait upon the Lord. All of us let us wait upon the Lord, do what is right, give the widows and orphans their rights, let just justice flow and democracy grow.”

“Raila was a politician who always listened to the ground.Let us always listen to the people of Kenya and make justice flow like a river.”

“We know that death has disrupted the ODM Party,the Odinga family, the broad-based government and the country but the joy is that God promises to be with us,” he added.

10:15 AM – Emily Oginga read the life history of Raila Odinga.

9:45 AM – President William Ruto and Uhuru Kenyatta arrives at JOOUST grounds.

9:40 AM – Ida Odinga leads the family of the late Raila Odinga as they arrive at JOOUST grounds.

9:15 AM – Raila Odinga’s body has been loaded off the hearse and placed on gun carriage, wheeled to destinated area.

9:10 AM – Raila Odinga’s body has arrived at JOOUST Grounds.

8:30AM – Raila Odinga’s body has left Opoda farm for JOOUST for the burial ceremony.

8:28 AM – National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Minister of Mining Ali Hassan Joho arrives at JOOUST grounds.

7:40 AM – Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, and Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris are among the leaders who have arrived at the funeral service of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Other leaders include Treasury CS John Mbadi, Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi, Cooperative CS Wycliffe Oparanya, and Attorney General Dorcas Agik Oduor.
