Nigeria Introduces New Visa Application Requirements

All applicants requiring a Nigerian visa have been directed to submit their applications directly to Nigerian diplomatic missions in the United States after the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) suspended the operations of its visa application centre operator.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, July 9, the NIS announced that the services of Online Integrated Solution (OIS Services), the operator of Nigeria’s Visa Application Centres in the United States, have been suspended with effect from July 1, 2026, until further notice.
The Nigeria Immigration Service stated,”Effective from July 1, 2026, the service of Online Integrated Solution (OIS SERVICES), the operator of Nigeria’s Visa Application Centers in the United States of America, has been suspended until further notice.”
Where Applicants Should Submit Their Applications
Following the suspension, the immigration agency instructed all applicants seeking Nigerian visas to submit their applications directly to Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in the United States.
Applicants can now lodge their visa applications at:
- The Embassy of Nigeria in Washington, D.C
- The Consulate General of Nigeria in New York
- The Consulate General of Nigeria in Atlanta
The agency said,”Accordingly, all applicants seeking a Nigerian visa are required to submit their applications directly at the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington, D.C., or at the Consulates General of Nigeria in New York and Atlanta.”

e-Visa System Remains Unaffected
The Nigeria Immigration Service clarified that the suspension only affects visa application submissions handled through the embassy and consulates using OIS Services.
The agency stressed that the country’s e-Visa system remains fully operational and applicants can continue submitting applications through the official online platform.
“This notice applies only to Visa application submissions at the Embassy and does not affect the e-Visa System.”

NIS Assures Smooth Processing
The immigration service assured travellers that measures have already been put in place to ensure visa submissions, processing, and issuance continue without disruption.
It advised applicants to follow official communication channels from the Nigeria Immigration Service and Nigerian missions in the United States for any updates on visa application procedures.
The agency also thanked applicants for their understanding and cooperation, saying it remains committed to providing efficient service delivery.
