How to Cancel a Passport Application
Share
There are situations where you may need to cancel a passport application after submitting it, especially if you notice errors in your details, submit more than one application, or change your travel plans before processing is complete.
In Kenya, the steps you follow depend on whether you have already gone for biometrics.
For a smooth process, first confirm the stage your application has reached. This step helps you decide whether to cancel it online or visit an immigration office for assistance.
Cancel Passport Application Before Biometrics
If you have not completed biometrics, you can cancel your application quickly through the eCitizen platform.
This option is simple and does not require you to visit any office. To cancel your application follow these steps:
- Log in to your eCitizen account
- Open your passport application
- Go to your dashboard or “My Applications”
- Select the application you want to cancel
- Click the cancel option and confirm
Once you complete these steps, the system immediately stops processing your application. As a result, you can submit a new application without delays, especially if you need to correct any mistakes.

If You Have Already Done Biometrics
However, if you have already completed biometrics, you cannot cancel the application online. At this stage, you must visit an immigration office for assistance and before leaving, make sure you carry your National ID and a printed copy of your application forms
At the immigration office:
- Visit Nyayo House or the centre where you applied
- Speak to the officers at the help desk
- Clearly explain the issue with your application
- Allow them to verify your details and reopen your application
After that, log back into your eCitizen account and cancel the application. Although this process takes more time, it ensures your records are corrected properly.
If you still need a passport, you will have to submit a new application and follow the process again from the beginning.

Why People Cancel Applications
In most cases, applicants cancel their passport applications for several reasons, including:
- Entering incorrect personal details
- Submitting duplicate applications
- Changing travel plans
- Switching to a different application type
Understanding these reasons can help you avoid similar mistakes when applying again.
Before you submit your application, always review your details carefully to avoid errors. In addition, double-check your documents to ensure everything is accurate.
More importantly, act quickly if you notice a mistake. If you cancel your application early, especially before biometrics, you will save time and avoid unnecessary visits to immigration offices.
