NLAS Announces 95 Job Vacancies With Salaries of Up to Ksh 400,000

The National Legal Aid Service (NLAS) has announced 95 job vacancies across different departments as it seeks to strengthen its workforce and improve access to legal aid services across the country.
The vacancies cover senior management, legal services, finance, human resource management, administration, information and communication technology (ICT), planning, corporate communication, supply chain management, records management and driver positions.
According to the recruitment notice, positions in NLAS Grades 1, 2 and 3 will be offered on three-year contracts, renewable once, while all other positions will be on permanent and pensionable terms.
The vacancies include:
- Chief Executive Officer position
NLAS has advertised one position for Chief Executive Officer/Director under Job Reference NLAS/CEO/1/1/2026/01.
The Chief Executive Officer will oversee the day-to-day management of the National Legal Aid Service and serve as the head of the Secretariat.
The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in developing, implementing and reviewing the agency’s strategy, business plans, and annual plans to help the service achieve its mandate.
Among the key responsibilities are serving as Secretary to the Board, acting as the accounting and authorized officer, coordinating administrative functions, implementing board policies and strategies, providing leadership, mobilizing resources, strengthening partnerships, promoting the corporate image of NLAS and ensuring prudent management of the Legal Aid Fund and the institution’s assets.
The CEO will also oversee compliance with relevant laws, champion national values in public service and ensure continuous improvement in service delivery.
Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- At least 15 years of work experience, seven of which must have been as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
- A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree
- A Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law

- Senior Deputy Director, Legal Aid

The officer will head the technical arm of the service and report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
The successful candidate will coordinate litigation and alternative dispute resolution while overseeing legal aid services across the country.

Qualifications
- At least three years of cumulative work experience as a Records Management Assistant III or an equivalent position.
- A Diploma in Records Management, Information Management, Information Science, Library Science or an equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrated merit and ability.
Duties
The successful candidate will receive, sort and dispatch mail, maintain mail registers, ensure the security of files, prepare file disposal schedules, digitize documents, maintain registry standards and oversee safe storage of records and archives.
The position offers a monthly salary ranging from Ksh 52,844 to Ksh 78,765.
- Legal Clerk III
NLAS has advertised four Legal Clerk III positions under Job Reference NLAS/LCIII/9/3/2026/28.
Applicants must possess a KCSE mean grade of C (Plain), a Diploma in Legal Studies, a Certificate in Records Management and a Certificate in Computer Applications.
Successful candidates will file contracts and court documents, serve legal documents, maintain court registries, respond to case inquiries, organize court files, prepare reports, assist in preparing pleadings and maintain court diaries.
The position falls under NLAS Grade 9 and offers a monthly salary ranging from Ksh 41,705 to Ksh 57,933.

- Driver I
The agency is recruiting four Driver I officers under Job Reference NLAS/D1/10/4/2026/29.
Qualifications
- At least three years of experience as a Driver II or an equivalent position.
- A KCSE mean grade of D (Plain) or its equivalent.
- A valid Class BCE driving licence free from endorsements.
- A Defensive Driving Certificate.
- Occupational Trade Test Grade II.
- A First Aid Certificate lasting at least one week.
- A refresher driving course completed within the last three years.
- Demonstrated merit and ability.
Duties
Successful candidates will drive authorized vehicles, carry out minor mechanical repairs, inspect vehicle systems, maintain vehicle cleanliness, ensure the safety of passengers and goods, safeguard assigned vehicles and maintain work tickets.
The position offers a monthly salary ranging from Ksh 32,932 to Ksh 47,148.
- Driver II
NLAS has also advertised five Driver II positions under Job Reference NLAS/DII/11/5/2026/30.
Qualifications
- A KCSE mean grade of D (Plain) or its equivalent.
- A valid Class BCE driving licence free from endorsements.
- A Defensive Driving Certificate.
- Occupational Trade Test Grade II.
- A First Aid Certificate lasting at least one week.
- Computer application skills.
- At least two years of driving experience.
Duties
The successful candidates will drive authorized vehicles, carry out minor repairs, inspect vehicle systems, maintain cleanliness, ensure the safety of passengers and goods, safeguard assigned vehicles and maintain work tickets.
The position falls under NLAS Grade 11 and offers a monthly salary ranging from Ksh 25,067 to Ksh 37,351.

NLAS clarified that hard copy applications will not be accepted.
The agency also said only shortlisted and successful candidates will be contacted, warning that canvassing in any form will lead to automatic disqualification.
Successful Candidates Must Meet Chapter Six Requirements
Successful applicants will be required to satisfy the leadership and integrity requirements under Chapter Six of the Constitution before receiving appointment letters.
They will have to present:
- Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
- Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Tax Compliance Certificate
- Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
- Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) Clearance Certificate
- Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) Clearance Certificate or proof of ongoing repayments
