Govt Issues 30-Day Directive to Occupants Along Ruiru–Githunguri Road

The government has issued a 30-day directive requiring all illegal roadside occupants along the Ruiru–Githunguri–Uplands (B116) Road to vacate the road reserve and remove any unauthorised structures.
In a public notice dated Friday, July 10, 2026, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said the directive targets illegal roadside occupants, including traders and owners of unauthorised structures operating along the road reserve.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) hereby notifies all illegal roadside occupants, including traders and unauthorized structures along the Ruiru – Githunguri – Uplands (B116) Road, to remove their wares and vacate the road reserve within thirty (30) days from the date of this notice,” read part of the notice.

KeNHA Sets August 10 Deadline for Traders to Vacate Road Reserve
According to the authority, the affected occupants have until August 10, 2026, to remove their wares and vacate the road reserve.
The Authority warned that it will take enforcement action against those who fail to comply within the stipulated period, in line with laws governing road reserves.
Meanwhile, KeNHA said the notice forms part of its ongoing road safety improvement initiative, which seeks to reduce accidents, maintain an unobstructed flow of traffic, and facilitate infrastructure development along the Ruiru–Githunguri–Uplands road corridor.

Authority Urges Compliance
The Authority urged all affected traders and occupants to comply within the given timeframe to avoid enforcement measures after the expiry of the 30-day notice period.
“All affected traders are urged to comply within the stipulated timeframe upon the expiry of this notice, on August 10, 2026, to avoid enforcement action in accordance with the relevant laws governing road reserves,” said KeNHA.
Additionally, the authority encouraged members of the public to support road safety efforts by adhering to regulations governing road use and infrastructure corridors.
The Authority continues to implement measures aimed at maintaining clear road reserves along major highways while improving safety for motorists and other road users.
