Kenya Met Warns of Rainfall and Cold Weather Over the Next Five Days in Several Counties

Various areas in Kenya are anticipated to experience rainfall within the coming five days, while residents from a number of counties will need to be ready to experience sporadic cold and cloudy conditions, as per the latest five-day weather forecast for five days released by the Kenya Meteorological Service (KMS).

This forecast is for the five days ranging from Sunday, July 12, to Thursday, July 16, 2026.

The weather agency says rainfall is expected in several counties across the country, although many areas will continue experiencing sunny intervals during the mornings and afternoons.

Light showers are also forecast in selected counties during the afternoons and nights as temperatures fluctuate from cool highland conditions to hot weather in arid and semi-arid regions.

According to the Kenya Meteorological Service, intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected in parts of Makueni, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Baringo, Narok, Kajiado, and Nairobi counties during the forecast period, even as sunshine dominates much of the country.

Rain Expected in Several Counties

The forecast indicates that coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi, will largely experience sunny intervals during the day, although light showers are expected at night on Tuesday in Mombasa and Kilifi, while Kwale may receive light showers from Tuesday morning through the night.

Inland counties such as Embu will experience light rain on Wednesday morning and light showers on Tuesday night, while Kirinyaga is expected to receive light showers during Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Busia is also forecast to receive light rain on Thursday morning and light showers on Wednesday night.

Western Kenya will experience isolated showers in some locations.

Kakamega, Bungoma, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, and Nandi are expected to record light afternoon showers on selected days, mainly on Sunday and Monday, before conditions become generally sunny later in the week.

Homa Bay is also expected to receive light showers on Tuesday night.

Cool Highlands, Hot Northern Kenya

The central highlands are expected to remain relatively cool.

Nyandarua will record some of the country’s lowest temperatures, with minimum temperatures dropping to as low as 5 degrees Celsius.

Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, and Nairobi are also expected to experience cool mornings accompanied by cloudy to sunny intervals, especially from Wednesday to Thursday.

Maximum temperatures in these counties will generally range between 23°C and 26°C.

In contrast, northern and north-eastern Kenya will continue experiencing hot conditions.

Mandera is forecast to record the highest daytime temperatures in the country, reaching between 35°C and 37°C during the five days.

Turkana will also remain extremely hot, with temperatures rising to between 35°C and 36°C, while Garissa, Wajir and Tana River are expected to record highs of between 31°C and 34°C.

Predominantly Sunny Weather in Various Counties

Even with the rains expected in certain parts, it is likely that there will be mostly sunny weather in most counties.

Counties such as Lamu, Taita Taveta, Marsabit, Isiolo, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Machakos, Laikipia, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Vihiga, Kisumu, and others are predicted to stay mostly sunny, with partially cloudy skies only at night.

Meteorological Advisory

The Kenya Meteorological Service has advised the public to use the five-day outlook alongside its daily 24-hour weather forecasts for more localized, up-to-date information.

The agency noted that county-specific forecasts remain available through the respective County Directors of Meteorological Services.

It also clarified that “light” rainfall refers to less than 5 millimetres in 24 hours, while intermittent weather conditions mean weather that starts and stops, or comes and goes, during the day.
