Odinga Family in Mourning Again as Ruth Leads Family in Paying Tribute

Raila Odinga’s sister, Ruth Odinga, has mourned the death of her cousin, Job Odima Atinga, whom she described as a dedicated public servant whose career was marked by integrity, courage and selfless service to the nation.

In a statement dated August 1, Ruth said she had travelled to Alego Kakan to join relatives in mourning Atinga’s untimely death and to stand with the bereaved family during the difficult period.

“This evening, I came to Alego Kakan to sit with the family of my late cousin, Mr. Job Odima Atinga, as we mourn his untimely passing,” she said.

Ruth Odinga said Atinga served Kenya with distinction as a senior officer in the National Intelligence Service (NIS), dedicating his career to safeguarding the country’s peace and security.

She further noted that his final posting at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nyanza Regional Office reflected his lifelong commitment to public service.

“Job served this country with distinction as a senior officer in the National Intelligence Service, and his final posting at the DCI Nyanza Regional Office demonstrates a life that was dedicated to the peace and security of our nation,” she said.

According to Ruth Odinga, Atinga’s career was built on integrity, courage and quiet, selfless service to Kenya.

In addition, she conveyed her condolences to Atinga’s immediate family, assuring them of the Odinga family’s continued support.

“To my sister-in-law, Syprose Odupe Atinga, and to Job’s children: our family grieves with you. We will continue to walk with you through this difficult season,” she said.

Family Suffers Another Loss Months After Beryl Odinga’s Death 

Ruth’s tribute comes months after the Odinga family mourned the death of Beryl Achieng Odinga, Raila Odinga’s sister, who passed away in late 2025. Beryl, who led a fairly private life, was a cherished member of one of Kenya’s most prominent political families.

In a Facebook post, the family described Beryl as a devoted mother to Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taurai.

She was a sister to Senator Oburu Oginga, the late Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, and Akinyi Wenwa, and sister-in-law to Dr. Anne Oburu, Dr. Canon Ida Odinga, Hon. Tabu Osewe, and Judy Oburu.

The family described Beryl’s passing as leaving an “immense void” and emphasized their gratitude for her life and the positive influence she had on those around her.

Beryl married Otieno Ambala in 1974, an aspiring legislator who later died of a heart attack in 1985 while at Kodiaga Prison.
