Govt Issues Fresh Directives to NYOTA Beneficiaries on Upcoming Business Mentorship

The Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) has announced the start of the NYOTA Business Support mentorship programme, calling on beneficiaries to prepare for visits from assigned business mentors.

In a notice shared on its official social media platforms on August 4, MSEA said the mentorship will support young entrepreneurs by offering practical business guidance and monitoring the progress of their enterprises.

According to MSEA, all Tranche 1 beneficiaries are required to participate in two mandatory mentorship sessions.

The authority instructed beneficiaries to ensure they are available at their business premises when their mentors visit.

“The two mentorship sessions are mandatory. Please ensure you are available at your business premises when your mentor visits. Successful completion of both sessions is required to continue progressing through the project,” MSEA said.

The agency also advised beneficiaries to keep their phones switched on and be ready to communicate with their assigned mentors.

Tranche 2 Beneficiaries to Receive Business Guidance

For Tranche 2 beneficiaries, MSEA said the mentorship programme will continue to provide business guidance, practical support and close handholding to help them strengthen and grow their enterprises.

The authority encouraged participants to actively engage with their mentors throughout the programme.

“The mentorship will continue to provide business guidance, practical support, and handholding as you grow and strengthen your enterprise.”

Why the Mentorship Matters

According to the State Department for MSMEs Development, the mentorship includes site visits, business advisory sessions, experience sharing, networking opportunities and practical guidance from trained business mentors.

More than 5,500 mentors have been engaged to support beneficiaries across all 1,450 wards in Kenya.

The State Department reported that after the first nationwide mentorship programme, 97% of beneficiaries who had received the first tranche of funding participated in the sessions, while 99% had already started their businesses.

The mentorship also identified business skill gaps that informed the next round of classroom training.
