EPRA Announces Death of Senior Official

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced the death of Mr. Silas Cheboi, Assistant Director of Surveillance and Enforcement.

In a statement, EPRA described Cheboi’s death as a profound loss to the Authority, his colleagues, and all those who had the opportunity to work with him.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mr. Silas Cheboi, Assistant Director Surveillance & Enforcement at the Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA),” read part of the notice.

EPRA Remembers Silas Cheboi for His Dedicated Service

The authority said Silas Cheboi will be remembered for his dedicated service, professionalism, integrity and commitment to the Authority’s mandate.

EPRA also extended its heartfelt condolences to Cheboi’s family, friends, colleagues, and all those mourning his death, as it wished his loved ones strength and comfort as they come to terms with the loss.

Silas Cheboi will be laid to rest at his Solian home in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, on August 15, 2026.

“His body will be interred at his Solian Home, Eldama Ravine, in Baringo County on 15th August 2026. Rest in Peace, Silas,” EPRA stated.

Role of EPRA’s Assistant Director

Meanwhile, the Assistant Director of Surveillance and Enforcement at the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) oversees compliance, surveillance and enforcement activities across Kenya’s energy and petroleum sectors.

The role involves monitoring whether licensed operators comply with regulatory requirements, operational standards, environmental laws and approved pricing regulations.

The Assistant Director also supervises field inspections and audits of facilities, retail outlets and transport vehicles to identify and address malpractices such as illegal LPG cross-filling, under-dispensing and fuel siphoning.

In addition, the position involves directing investigations into violations including electricity theft, transformer vandalism and operations by unlicensed entities.

Furthermore, the Assistant Director coordinates enforcement efforts with security agencies, including the Energy Police Unit and national administrative officers, to ensure that offenders are dealt with in accordance with the law.
