180 IDs, Tear Gas and Metal Bars Recovered as Two Suspected Gang Members Arrested

Two suspected criminal gang members have been arrested by detectives in Teso South, Busia County, and multiple items have been recovered.
According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) released on Thursday, August 20, 2026, the items recovered are 180 National Identification cards with different names, a tear gas canister, and other suspected stolen items.
The suspects have been identified as Francis Okoside, also known as Franco, and Douglas Barasa, who is also known as Dady Okangu.
Additionally, the suspects were apprehended by detectives during an operation which is aimed at dismantling criminal networks in the region.
Items Recovered
After their arrest, detectives conducted a search at one of the suspects’ residences, Okoside. They did the search in the presence of his family.
The thorough search led to the recovery of 180 National Identification cards which had different names, meaning they were for different people.

This led the detectives to probe how the crucial documents came into the suspect’s possession and what they were being used for, or rather intended to be used in criminal activities.
Apart from the ID cards, investigators uncovered a tear gas canister, a heavy metal rod, and eight metal bars believed to be used for house-breaking and entering.
Suspects In Custody
Also seized were two pairs of military boots and five mobile phones, among other incriminating items.
All the items that were recovered during the search have been kept as evidence by the DCI.
On the other hand, the two suspects are in custody and are being processed before they are arraigned in court.
Investigations into the matter are still ongoing, and detectives are pursuing additional leads to help uncover the criminal network.

Detectives investigating the case are also determined to find any individuals who may be part of the suspected criminal network.
Lately, there have been multiple reported cases of insecurity and drug trafficking in Busia County; that is why detectives are working to identify criminals.
