Bungoma County Woman Representative aspirant Agnetta Mwangale has been found after she went missing during the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay on Sunday, August 16, 2026.

Vihiga Woman Representative aspirant Amakove Wala shared the update on Facebook, saying Mwangale was injured and traumatised and had been taken to hospital for medical attention.

My fellow woman rep aspirant for Bungoma, Agnetta Mwangale, has finally been located this morning. Injured. Traumatised. There is a team headed to take her to safety and medical care,” Wala said.

Mwangale and another participant, Abigael Githonyo alias Abby Zuena, reportedly lost contact with their teams at around 6.00 p.m. after chaos broke out during the political rally.

Their phones were switched off throughout the night with Mwangale’s National ID being found where vehicles were packed, leaving their families, supporters and fellow political leaders increasingly worried about their whereabouts.

The disappearance sparked concern among those who had attended the event, with efforts to establish their location continuing overnight before Mwangale was eventually traced on Monday morning August 17.

Agnetta Mwangale Found as Wala Calls for Psychosocial Support

Following the chaos, Wala called for psychosocial support for members of Linda Mwananchi who were caught up in the violence and said several people were injured and admitted to hospital.

She also said some security personnel had died during the incident, while many participants were left traumatised after what she described as a prolonged ordeal involving stones, live bullets, tear gas and theft.

Wala shared a toll-free number provided by Defenders Coalition for people seeking psychosocial support.

“0800-722-292. Toll free line for psychosocial support by Defenders Coalition,” she said.

Wala Thanks Homa Bay Residents

Wala also thanked residents of Homa Bay who helped people caught up in the chaos, saying some residents took injured participants to hospital while others sheltered them in their homes.

“And to the great residents of Homabay who came to the rescue of those who were injured and took them to hospital. Others hosted us overnight in their homes, risking their lives to save ours,” Wala said.

She further thanked residents who escorted them through the violence, saying they risked their lives to help the group escape.

“You have shown that we are all Kenyans and Kenya is our business. And you have defended the constitutional right to assemble,” she added.

She Recounts Two-Hour Ordeal

Wala also recounted the experience inside the vehicle she was travelling in, describing it as a two-hour ordeal.

She said one man in the vehicle prayed throughout the incident as the group came under attack.

“There is a guy in our car who was praying throughout the two hour ordeal of live bullets, tear gas, stones crashing our car, bags being stolen, crashing into other cars, driving over rocks on the road,” Wala said.

She also accused police officers at the scene of either joining in the violence or failing to intervene.

According to Wala, the driver played a crucial role in getting them to safety despite the vehicle sustaining significant damage.

“He just kept on driving. We arrived with half a car but we arrived,” she said.
