5 People Behind the Newly Registered Political Party

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has announced plans to provisionally register the Humanist Party of Kenya, with five individuals listed as its founding members.

In a notice dated August 25, ORPP said it is in the process of provisionally registering the proposed party in accordance with the Political Parties Act.

“In line with Section 5 (2) (a) of the PPA, the Registrar of Political Parties is in the process of provisionally registering the following proposed Political Party: Humanist Party of Kenya (Humanist),” read part of the notice.

ORPP Moves to Provisionally Register Humanist Party of Kenya

According to the notice, the proposed Humanist Party of Kenya has five founder members.

They include:

• Kajaka Peter Okoth
• Abula Ivonne
• Okeyo Nelson Otieno
• Oburu Robert Arori
• Gichohi Sylvia Muthoni

The ORPP said the details of the proposed political party have been made available on its website.

Additionally, the registering body stated that the Humanist Party of Kenya will use gold, navy blue and vibrant red as its official colours.

Its proposed symbol is a circular emblem with a prominent inscribed golden letter “H”, while its proposed slogan is “Raia ndio nguvu.”

Public Invited to Submit Objections

The Registrar of Political Parties has allowed members of the public to raise objections to the proposed registration.

ORPP said objections must be presented within seven days from the date of publication, either in writing or in person.

Written or in-person objections can be submitted to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties at Lion Place, Fourth Floor, off Waiyaki Way at Karuna Close, Nairobi.

Members of the public can also submit objections via info@orpp.or.ke or registration@orpp.or.ke.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties is established under Section 33 of the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D, as a State Office within the meaning of Article 260 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

The office is mandated to register and regulate political parties and administer the Political Parties Fund.

The provisional registration process allows the Registrar to consider any objections raised by members of the public before proceeding with the proposed party’s registration.
