Uhuru’s Party Responds to Recent Mass Defections to DCP

Jubilee Party has addressed the recent mass defections to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In a statement, Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i said the party had suspended those who announced their departure over alleged misconduct and interference with party structures.

Jubilee said it respects the constitutional right of Kenyans to choose which political party to join but criticised the manner in which the defectors left the party.

“These individuals were suspended by the Party several months ago,” Jubilee said, citing concerns over “misconduct, mismanagement of party affairs and persistent interference with established party structures and processes.”

The party also claimed to have received complaints over an attempt to solicit monetary resources from aspirants, which the party condemned as contrary to the high principles and standards of its leadership.

“Such practices have no place in Jubilee Party,” the statement said.

Jubilee argued that the disciplinary actions aimed to safeguard the party’s credibility and internal procedures rather than punish members for their political decisions.

The party also said some of the individuals had taken political positions that differed from Jubilee’s programmes and collective decision-making processes, despite holding office or having been elected on the party’s ticket.

“What has been presented by some as a sudden ‘defection’ is, in many cases, simply the formalization of political positions that have been evident for some time,” Jubilee said.

The party said it would not permit the departures to give the impression that they were the voices of a broader exit by Jubilee members, supporters or Nairobi voters.

Jubilee Party’s Grassroots Reorganization

Instead, Jubilee announced that it was prioritizing the reorganization of its grassroots levels in preparation for the 2027 General Election.

“Our responsibility is much bigger: to rebuild, reorganize and strengthen the party from the grassroots upwards,” the statement said.

The party said it was restructuring and reorganizing itself at the ward, constituency and county levels while capturing the interests and aspirations of its members and recruiting individuals and leaders.

Jubilee’s 2027 Election Strategy

The board also listed the cost of living, employment opportunities, affordable housing, safety and security, transport, and access to services as key issues.

“The 2027 General Election will not be won through social media arguments, political theatrics or endless commentary,” the party said.

Jubilee announced that it will concentrate on rebuilding its grassroots network, strengthening its leadership and training candidates in preparation for the 2027 elections.
