ODM Endorses Gladys Wanga as Ruto’s Deputy Ahead of 2027 Elections

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has been endorsed for the Deputy President position as ODM seeks a bigger role in President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.

The endorsement puts Wanga forward as the party weighs its options for the running-mate position in a possible political arrangement with Ruto ahead of the General Election.

Narok South MCA Daniel Ole Kilerai backed Wanga for the position, saying he would be pleased to see her serve as Deputy President.

“Personally, I say Mama Gladys is enough to be Deputy President, and we would be very happy,” Kilerai said.

Kilerai, who represents Majimoto-Naroosura Ward, made the remarks as ODM continues to position itself ahead of the 2027 polls.

Wanga is ODM’s national chairperson and has remained one of the party’s prominent figures as discussions over its political future with Ruto continue.

Her possible elevation to the second-highest office would also give ODM a senior representative at the heart of a potential Ruto-led ticket.

Wanga’s Name Emerges in ODM-Ruto Talks

ODM’s push for the Deputy President position has become a key part of discussions around a possible working arrangement with Ruto ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party has maintained that it should secure the running-mate slot if it backs Ruto’s re-election bid, although the choice of candidate remains an issue within the wider negotiations.

Wanga has previously said ODM has several leaders capable of deputizing Ruto, suggesting the party has more than one option for the position.

Her name has featured alongside other senior ODM figures linked to the running-mate debate, including former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

For ODM, securing the Deputy President position would give the party a central role in a possible Ruto-led campaign.

Kilerai’s support for Wanga adds to the attention around her as the conversation over ODM’s preferred candidate continues.
