Ruto Explains Why Handover of Amboseli National Park to Kajiado County Has Stalled

President William Ruto has explained why the planned handover of Amboseli National Park to Kajiado County has stalled, saying the move has been challenged in court.
Speaking about the matter, Ruto said his administration had decided to correct what he described as a historical injustice faced by the people of Kajiado over Amboseli.
He recalled personally going to the area to oversee the handover after the government resolved that the park should be placed under the county.
“Amboseli is yours here. I came here as the President of the Republic of Kenya and said we must correct the history that the people of Kajiado had faced, and how they were deprived of Amboseli,” Ruto said.
He, however, noted that the process had faced legal challenges, with some people taking the government to court over the decision. Ruto said such court action was not new to him, suggesting the legal proceedings had contributed to the delay in implementing the handover.
Despite the setback, the President maintained that his administration remained committed to the decision. He said that, God willing, Amboseli would become the property of the people of Kajiado County before the end of 2026.
“Amboseli, God willing, will be the property of the people of Kajiado County before the end of this year because that is the decision we made as a government,” he said.
