Former CS Justin Muturi Speaks on Parting Ways with Gachagua

Former Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has addressed a statement suggesting Mt Kenya East leaders could chart a separate political path from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying the document circulating in his name is fake.

Muturi said he neither authored nor signed the document, which was presented as a joint statement by leaders from Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi.

He also denied giving consent for its publication or circulation, saying the signature attached to it had been forged.

Muturi rejects purported Gachagua split

The statement claimed Mt Kenya East leaders would resist efforts to have their political parties dissolved or folded into Gachagua’s Democracy Citizens Party ahead of the 2027 General Election.

It further accused Mt Kenya West of dominating political appointments and development while relying on Mt Kenya East for electoral support, arguing that the appointment of Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President after Gachagua’s impeachment had demonstrated that Mt Kenya East could produce national leaders.

Muturi, however, distanced himself from the entire document.

“I wish to categorically state that this document is fake and fraudulent. I did not author it, I did not sign it, and I did not consent to its publication or circulation,” Muturi said in a statement issued on Thursday.

He warned Kenyans, political leaders and the media against treating the document as an authentic communication from him.

Muturi points to political misinformation

The former CS accused unnamed actors of using propaganda and misinformation to create divisions among political leaders.

“We all know where such tactics come from,” Muturi said.

Alleging that those in government had become uncomfortable with what he described as growing political awakening among Kenyans and stronger opposition voices.

He said his political position would only be communicated through his official channels, distancing himself from anonymous accounts and documents whose authenticity could not be established.

“My political position will never be communicated through forged letters or anonymous social media accounts,” he said.

Muturi also urged anyone who encounters the purported statement not to circulate it further, describing it as a malicious fabrication.

His clarification comes as political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to generate debate across Mt Kenya, with the relationship between Gachagua and leaders from the region remaining a key part of the emerging political conversation.

For now, Muturi’s statement does not confirm that he has broken ranks with Gachagua.

Instead, he has specifically rejected the joint statement and said his position will be communicated through his official platforms.
