Gachagua Reveals What Ruto Is Expected to Address in Tonight's National Address

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed claims that he is forcing political parties in the Mt Kenya region to join DCP clarifying that all parties are free to compete and collaborate voluntarily.

Speaking at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri during a meeting with a delegation from Mathioya and Kangema, Gachagua said he had no problem with the region having multiple political parties.

“I want to clarify today that DCP and Rigathi Gachagua welcome all political parties. They come, we compete fairly. The only thing we do not want competition on is the presidential seat alone,” he said.

He added that differences among leaders remain minimal, as many express similar positions such as support for a one-term presidency.

Consequently, he noted that the main distinction lies in their level of political activity on the ground.

Gachagua Pushes for Grassroot Campaigns

At the same time, he urged leaders to intensify grassroots campaigns, stressing that political success depends on visibility and consistent engagement with voters.

“I am famous because the party leader is doing his activity, he is working. Isn’t it? A party must be sold, you must move around,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Gachagua welcomed leaders and encouraged unity, emphasising the importance of consistent interaction within the region.

“So I am telling my brothers, please I am very grateful you have come. For a little while I haven’t seen you, welcome. Munya I have seen you have come,” he said.

At the same time, Gachagua pointed out that political mobilization requires effort and coordination, especially for leaders seeking to influence governance.

“This journey of shaking the government is not easy. Delivering easily from the office is hard,” he said.

Warning Over Poor Party Performance

Furthermore, Gachagua challenged leaders to take responsibility for their parties’ performance, warning that failure to campaign actively would result in poor electoral outcomes.

“So if you are together, you sell the party. Now you will go to hell if you fail to sell the party,” he said

In addition, he appeared to caution specific leaders over low political engagement, linking it to poor performance in past elections.

“Now you Munya and PNU you haven’t arrived yet. Then you get 2018 votes and you get embarrassed. First, now if you fail to campaign you will get votes,” he added.

Overall, Gachagua maintained that unity and coordination among leaders in the Mt Kenya region remain critical in strengthening their political influence ahead of future elections.

He concluded by encouraging leaders to remain active on the ground, noting that consistent mobilization and visibility will ultimately determine electoral success.

Dispute Sparked by Remarks and Leaders’ Concerns

Gachagua was responding to concerns raised by Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi, former Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya of the Party of National Unity (PNU) and Democratic Empowerment Party (DEP) leader Lenny Kivuti, who had accused him of seeking to eliminate other political parties in the region.

The dispute followed remarks attributed to Gachagua during a church event in Meru on July 26, when he reportedly urged the Democratic Party, PNU, Umoja na Maendeleo Party and DEP to dissolve and join DCP.
