Fire Breaks Out at Lang’ata High School Again

A fire has reportedly broken out at Lang’ata High School in Nairobi, prompting an emergency response.
In a statement dated September 5, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko said he had received a call from someone at the school reporting that the institution was on fire again.
Sonko urged firefighters, police and other emergency responders to rush to the school and help protect students, teachers and other people at the institution.
“URGENT! URGENT! URGENT! Someone has just called me from Langata High School, shouting that the school is on fire again right now. Firefighters, police, and all emergency responders, please rush to the school immediately. May God protect the students, teachers, and everyone at the school,” Mike Sonko stated.
The cause of the reported fire and the extent of any damage remain unclear. There are also no immediate reports of injuries or evacuations.
Lang’ata High School Hit by Fire in July
The latest report comes less than two months after a fire broke out at the school on July 11, 2026.

The earlier fire affected part of a dormitory, with firefighters and local emergency teams responding and containing the blaze before it spread further.
However, no injuries or fatalities were reported during the July incident. Authorities subsequently launched investigations to establish the cause of the fire and assess the damage.
The school had also experienced a separate fire incident in June, when mattresses were reportedly set on fire following student unrest.
Jomo Kenyatta Boys High School Closed After Fire
Meanwhile, the reported fire at Lang’ata High School comes days after Jomo Kenyatta Boys High School in Nakuru County was closed indefinitely following student unrest that left classrooms and other property destroyed by fire.
The unrest broke out on the night of September 2, 2026, prompting police to intervene as students protested at the school.

Police reportedly fired gunshots and used tear gas to contain the situation after students allegedly confronted officers.
Several classrooms were destroyed by fire during the unrest, with videos shared online showing flames at the school as efforts were made to contain the blaze.
Following the incident, students were sent home as police launched investigations to establish what happened and identify those involved.
