Vijana Barubaru Announce Break From Making Music Together

Share

Kenyan music duo Vijana Barubaru, made up of artists Tuku Kantu and Mwana Wa Wambui, have announced a break from making music together to focus on their individual careers.

In a statement dated September 9 2026, the duo said the decision comes as both of them continue to grow creatively and seek the opportunity to explore individually.

“Today, we want to share that we are entering a new season of our music careers. As artists and as individuals, we have both continued to grow, and out of the desire to further explore our creative journeys, we have decided to go on a hiatus to focus on our solo careers,” said the statement.

The pair, who have built their brand around what they described as two voices and one shared journey, reflected on the years they have spent making music together, saying they remain proud of everything they have achieved as a team.

A New Chapter

“Together, we have created music, memories, and moments that have shaped us,” they said, adding that the foundation they built as Vijana Barubaru remains an important part of their journey.

They clarified that the break is not framed as an end to the group, but rather as a period dedicated to self-discovery and creative exploration through their solo careers.

According to the statement, both artists believe the new phase will allow them to discover new aspects of themselves while continuing to grow as musicians.

“As artists and as individuals, we have both continued to grow, and out of the desire to further explore our creative journeys, we have decided to go on a hiatus to focus on our solo careers,” the statement read.

Additionally, they described the move as an opportunity to explore their creative voices and see what more they can become as individual artists while acknowledging the role the group has played in shaping their careers.

Message To Fans

Throughout the statement, the duo repeatedly thanked their supporters, saying the love they have received over the years made their achievements possible.

In addition, they noted that Vijana Barubaru had given them more than just a musical partnership, describing it as a source of foundation, history and brotherhood.

The artists also urged fans to continue supporting them as they embark on their separate musical journeys, expressing hope that listeners would embrace this next chapter with the same enthusiasm they showed the group.

“In the same spirit, we invite you to experience what those same voices will become in this next chapter we are ushering in,” they said.

Solo Careers

This announcement marks a significant moment for the duo, who have spent years performing together and establishing themselves in Kenya’s music industry.
