KFS Takes Over Part of Muthaiga Golf Club Over Karura Forest Claim

Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has taken over access to part of Muthaiga Golf Club, affecting the section from Hole No. 2 to Hole No. 9 after claiming the area falls within Karura Forest.

The club’s chairman, Dennis Mwirigi, informed members in a memo dated Tuesday, September 15, that the affected Front Nine would remain inaccessible until further notice.

KFS Claims Golf Course Section Is Part of Karura Forest

The affected section covers eight holes, from Hole No. 2 through Hole No. 9, which members have been unable to access following the KFS takeover.

Mwirigi said the club’s Board was handling the matter and working to resolve the situation as urgently as possible.

“The Board is seized of the matter and is trying their level best to resolve the situation as urgently as possible,” Mwirigi said.

The memo did not provide details on the basis of KFS’s claim that the section forms part of Karura Forest.

Members have been advised that the Front Nine will remain inaccessible until further notice as the Board addresses the matter.

The restriction specifically affects the section between Hole No. 2 and Hole No. 9, while the club’s other facilities have not been included in the temporary closure.

Range and Parking Remain Accessible

The temporary restriction does not affect the club’s Range and parking areas with Mwirigi confirming that members can continue accessing the two facilities despite the situation affecting the Front Nine.

The chairman apologised to members for the inconvenience caused by the restriction and asked for their patience, understanding and cooperation as the Board works to resolve the matter.

For now, access remains restricted from Hole No. 2 through Hole No. 9, while the Range and parking areas remain accessible to members.

The club has therefore maintained the temporary closure of the affected section until further notice, as stated in the chairman’s memo.
