Kisumu Building Collapse Leaves 8 Injured as Residents Evacuated

UPDATE:

Eight people sustained injuries after a building collapsed in Mamboleo, Kisumu County, with emergency teams attending to the victims.

The Kenya Red Cross said its teams, alongside a multi-agency response team, treated six of the injured people at the scene.

Two others sustained critical injuries and were referred to hospital for further medical attention.

The Kenya Red Cross also confirmed that all residents had been successfully evacuated from the building as response teams continued to manage the situation.

The building collapsed on the morning of September 21, 2026, according to the Kenya Red Cross.

In a statement, the Kenya Red Cross said its response teams were heading to the scene following the incident.

“Reports of a building collapse in Mamboleo, Kisumu County. Response teams are en route to the scene,” Kenya Red Cross said.

Several casualties have been reported following the building collapse, with some of those affected receiving treatment after the incident.

The victims were reportedly living in the structure that collapsed near the Mamboleo Showground in Kisumu County.

Eight Injured in Mamboleo Building Collapse

The Kenya Red Cross later provided an update on the incident, saying its teams had attended to eight injured people alongside a multi-agency response team.

According to the organisation, six of the injured people were treated at the scene, while two others who were in critical condition were referred to hospital for further medical attention.

“Alongside a multi-agency response team, we have attended to eight injured people. Six were treated on site, while two in critical condition were referred to hospital,” Kenya Red Cross said.

The Kenya Red Cross also confirmed that all residents had been safely evacuated from the affected structure.

“All residents have been successfully evacuated,” the organisation said.

Recent Building Collapses in Kenya

The Mamboleo incident comes amid other building-collapse cases reported in different parts of Kenya in recent months.

On September 8, 2026, a five-storey building under construction collapsed in Ogembo, Kisii County, killing one person who was trapped in the debris. Authorities raised concerns about construction practices as investigations into the incident continued.

In August 2026, a section of a building under construction collapsed at a site in Syokimau, Machakos County, killing one worker and injuring five others. The injured workers were taken to hospital, while authorities began investigations into the incident.
