Kenya Met Lists Areas Set to Receive Rainfall and Rising Temperatures in Last Week of September

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has forecast rainfall across several parts of the country between September 22 and 28, 2026, while some counties are expected to record high daytime temperatures.
According to a weather forecast dated September 22, rainfall is expected mainly in the Coast, Northeastern, Western, Central, and parts of the Rift Valley regions.
“Rainfall is expected over several parts of the country, especially over the Coast, Northeastern, Western, Central and parts of the Rift Valley regions,” Kenya Met stated.
Kenya Met Lists Counties Expected to Receive Rainfall
Kenya Met listed several counties expected to receive rainfall during the seven-day forecast period.
In the Coastal region, rainfall is expected in Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu.
The forecast also covers several counties in the Northeastern region, including Garissa, Mandera, Wajir and Marsabit.
In the Central region, the affected counties include Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri and Tharaka-Nithi, while Kitui and Makueni are also expected to experience rainfall.
Other areas listed in the forecast include Narok, Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, Nakuru, Nandi, Nyamira, Siaya, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu and Vihiga.
Kenya Met noted that rainfall could also occur in other localized areas during the predicted time.

Counties Set to Record Temperatures Above 30°C
Despite the expected rainfall, some parts of the country are likely to experience high daytime temperatures.
Kenya Met said daytime maximum average temperatures of more than 30°C are expected in Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit and Turkana counties.

According to the forecast, the highest daytime temperatures will largely be concentrated in parts of the Coast and Northeastern regions, as well as Turkana.
“Daytime (maximum) average temperatures of more than 30°C are expected several counties including Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit & Turkana,” read part of the forecast.
Meanwhile, some parts of the country are expected to experience notably cooler nights.
Kenya Met predicted nighttime minimum average temperatures of less than 10°C in some parts of Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nakuru, Narok, Taita/Taveta and Kajiado counties.
“Night-time (minimum) average temperatures are expected to be less than 10°C in some parts of Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nakuru, Narok, Taita/Taveta and Kajiado Counties,” Kenya Met stated.
