Details Emerge After Linda Mwananchi Closed Door Meeting

Linda Mwananchi has named Edwin Watenya Sifuna as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election. The announcement was made after the movement’s leadership met and agreed to move forward together.

In a statement issued on Saturday, September 26, the movement said Sifuna will lead its presidential bid as the group seeks to build a coalition with like-minded political parties.

Linda Mwananchi said Sifuna is its leader and presidential candidate.

“Edwin Watenya Sifuna is our leader and Presidential Candidate,” the movement said.

It added that Sifuna will lead the unveiling of the political party on whose ticket he will run. The party is expected to be unveiled in early October.

Linda Mwananchi also said it will seek to build a coalition with parties that share its commitment to the people of Kenya.

“We will seek to build a coalition with like-minded parties that share our commitment to the people of Kenya,” the statement said.

The movement said its leaders remain united and focused on the work ahead.

Sifuna Speaks After Linda Mwananchi Retreat

Sifuna later took to social media to comment on the meeting, saying the retreat had ended on a positive note.

“@LindaMwananchi_ retreat imeisha late lakini imeisha mzuri. Always a pleasure being in the company of these great leaders! Mbele kuzuri sana!” Sifuna wrote.

Babu Owino Says Leaders Are United

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also spoke about the meeting, saying the leaders had strengthened their cooperation.

“WE ARE MORE UNITED THAN EVER,” Owino said.

He said the meeting with the Linda Mwananchi principals focused on consolidating their bases, strengthening cooperation and reaffirming their shared commitment to working together.

Owino said the leaders agreed that achieving their common political objective would require unity, coordination and a willingness to work together.

“By bringing our respective strengths and networks together, we can build a stronger and more united movement for the journey ahead,” he said.

Meeting Follows Reports of Differences

The latest meeting comes after reports of disagreements among some of Linda Mwananchi’s principals.

The reported differences centred on the political vehicle that would be used by the movement in the 2027 elections. Reports had linked Babu Owino to the Mwananchi Party, while Sifuna had been associated with the Ukombozi People’s Party.

The differences over the preferred political vehicle led to speculation about a possible fallout between the two leaders.

However, Babu dismissed reports of a personal fallout with Sifuna and maintained his support for the senator’s presidential bid.
