Martha Karua’s Emotional Final Moments With Her Father Before Receiving Tragic News

People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has announced the death of her father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua, describing his passing as a profound loss to her family.

In an emotional statement shared on her social media on September 27, 2026, she said she had travelled to Kirinyaga County earlier in the day to visit her father, and while travelling back, she received the sad news.

“My siblings and I spent time with him and sang his favourite gospel hymn, never knowing it would be our last song together. On my way back to Nairobi, I received the news that my beloved father had breathed his last,” Karua said.

Additionally, she reflected on the significance of being able to spend time with him before his passing, saying those moments had become deeply meaningful to her and her family.

Emotional Tribute

“We were simply grateful to sit beside him, to see him and spend that time together. I did not know I would soon be looking back on those moments with such tenderness, but I am deeply grateful to have them,” she said.

Karua paid tribute to her father as a teacher and a man who valued character, education, and doing what was right.

She said, “My father was a principled man, a teacher, and a man who believed deeply in the value of character, education, and doing what is right.”

She also described him as a loving, steady, and supportive father who believed in her long before her achievements in law and public life.

“My father believed in me long before I had achieved anything worth celebrating. From my school days, through my career in law, and through the many chapters of my public life,” said Karua.

In addition, she said his influence extended beyond his immediate family, noting that his passing would be felt by his children, grandchildren, relatives, and the many people whose lives he touched.

In the emotional tribute, Karua said she would miss his voice, counsel, and encouragement, adding that she would continue carrying with her the lessons, values, and love he imparted to his family.

However, Karua did not disclose any details about her father’s passing and what may have caused his death. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced once plans are made.

Condolences have started pouring in; President William Ruto has mourned with Karua, remembering her father as a devoted teacher who touched generations.

“Mwalimu Karua devoted his life to teaching and service, touching generations through his work and leaving a lasting impact on many lives. We join Martha, the Karua family, relatives and friends in mourning this loss and honouring a life of service,” President Ruto said.
