Witness Reveals What Happened Inside Tob Cohen’s Home Before His Death

Former housekeeper Shilindwa Shichemi has testified about a series of incidents he said he witnessed inside the home of Dutch businessman Tob Cohen and his wife, Sarah Wairimu, in the period before Cohen’s death.

Shichemi, who worked at the couple’s home, told the court that he witnessed incidents that suggested there were disagreements between Cohen and Wairimu.

His testimony included an alleged altercation on the night of February 8, 2018, when he said he heard Cohen crying out for help.

The housekeeper noted that he heard noises coming from inside the house before hearing Cohen repeatedly saying, “you are killing me.”

“Usiku nikaskia kelele…kisanga yenye haitatoka Kwa akili yangu, ‘you are killing me, you are killing me,’” the witness said.

Shilindwa Shichemi Details Alleged Disagreements Between Cohen and Wairimu

He told the court that Cohen was on the floor and unable to get out because Wairimu had allegedly blocked him with a chair.

Shichemi said he then saw Cohen bleeding when he woke up.

“Tob ako chini lakini Sarah amemfungia kwa kiti hawezi toka … wakati Tob alipoamaka niliona anatoa damu,” Shichemi said.

Shichemi further testified that Cohen asked him to use his phone to take a picture of the area where he had been injured, which he eventually did.

The housekeeper also told the court about another incident in which he allegedly found Cohen on the floor near the staircase, with Wairimu on top of him.

He said the incidents contributed to his impression that there were disagreements between the couple as he testified about a safe at the residence.

According to Shichemi, Tob Cohen had asked him to break open the safe so that he could retrieve property documents.

He said he instead informed Wairimu, who he alleged later instructed him to do everything possible to prevent Cohen from accessing the documents.

Witness Recalls Learning of Cohen’s Death From Television Reports

Shilindwa Shichemi further testified that he noticed several changes inside the house.

He told the court that some of Cohen’s belongings were missing and that parts of the house appeared different.

Among the changes he described were torn sofas and Cohen’s bed, which he said had been left with only a mattress and a cover, adding to his concerns about what was happening at the residence.

The housekeeper also testified about what Wairimu allegedly told him regarding Cohen’s whereabouts. According to Shichemi, Wairimu told him that Cohen had travelled to Ngambo and would return after two or three weeks.

However, Shilindwa Shichemi told the court that his understanding changed after he began hearing reports that Cohen was missing.

He later saw reports on television that Cohen’s body had been discovered in a septic tank at the residence.

The witness said the reports made him question the earlier explanation that Cohen had travelled out of the country.

Meanwhile, Shichemi’s testimony forms part of the prosecution’s evidence in the case involving Cohen’s death.

Wairimu has denied the allegations that she murdered Cohen.
