Kenya Met Reveals Counties Set for Heavy Showers as Temperatures Soar to 38°C

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has forecast rainfall in various parts of the country between September 29, 2026 and October 5, 2026.

According to a weather forecast dated September 29, 2026, rainfall is expected in parts of Lamu, Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Mandera, Marsabit and Meru.

More counties to experience the same are Embu, Garissa, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Kisumu, Kitui, Laikipia, Machakos, Makueni, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet, Bomet, Kericho, Kisii, Nyamira and Wajir counties.

Afternoon showers may also occur in parts of several other counties, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Garissa, Wajir, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Nyeri and Tharaka-Nithi.

Night Weather

At night, showers are expected in a few areas of the Coast, northeastern Kenya, Nairobi, Embu, Meru, Nakuru, Busia, Kisumu, Isiolo, Elgeyo Marakwet and Bungoma.

Meanwhile, Kenya Met forecasts daytime average temperatures of above 30°C in parts of Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, Marsabit and Turkana.

Lodwar is expected to record the highest maximum temperature among the selected towns at 38°C, followed by Mandera at 38°C, Wajir at 36°C and Garissa at 35°C. Kisumu is expected to reach 33°C, while Voi could record a maximum of 32°C.

On the other hand, night-time minimum average temperatures of below 10°C are expected in some parts of Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Narok, Taita Taveta and Kajiado.

Additionally, Nyahururu is expected to record the lowest minimum temperature among the selected towns at 5°C, while Eldoret, Kericho, Narok, Laikipia and Machakos could record minimum temperatures of 11°C.

Also, Nairobi is expected to record a maximum temperature of 28°C and a minimum of 11°C during the forecast period.

Mandera Meteorological Station recorded the highest daily maximum temperature at 38.3°C on September 27, while Nyahururu recorded the lowest daily minimum temperature at 5.1°C on the same day.
