Banks With the Lowest Loan Rates in Kenya as of August 2026

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has announced the average lending and deposit rates for commercial banks in Kenya as of August 2026.

Commercial banks in Kenya recorded varying lending and deposit rates in August 2026, with some banks lowering their average cost of credit while others increased their rates compared with July.

Data shared by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) showed that Citibank N.A. Kenya recorded the lowest average lending rate at 10.52%, while Credit Bank PLC had the highest at 18.69% during the month.

On the deposit side, Development Bank of Kenya offered an average deposit rate of 10.04%, while Standard Chartered Bank Kenya recorded the lowest at 2.88%.

Citibank Records Lowest Lending Rate

Citibank N.A. Kenya had the lowest average lending rate among the 38 banks listed, at 10.52% in August, down from 10.59% in July.

Standard Chartered Bank Kenya followed with a lending rate of 11.48%, while Stanbic Bank Kenya recorded 11.93%.

Habib Bank A.G. Zurich posted an average lending rate of 12.48% while HFC Limited stood at 13.07%.

Other banks with lending rates below 14 percent included Bank of Baroda (Kenya) at 13.49%, Guardian Bank at 13.51%, I&M Bank at 13.67%, ABSA Bank Kenya at 13.69 %, Bank of India at 13.83%, Development Bank of Kenya at 13.94%, Prime Bank at 13.94 % and Diamond Trust Bank Kenya at 13.97%

CBK Lists Banks With Highest Interest Rates

Meanwhile, Credit Bank PLC recorded the highest average lending rate in August at 18.69%, although this was lower than its July rate of 19.06%.

Access Bank (Kenya) followed at 17.32% while SBM Bank Kenya recorded 17.17%.

On the other hand, Kingdom Bank’s lending rate stood at 17.21% compared with 17.00% in July.

Other banks recording lending rates above 17% were Bank of Africa Kenya at 17.45%,  Access Bank at 17.32%, SBM Bank at 17.17%, and Kingdom Bank at 17.21%.

KCB, Equity Lead Major Banks’ Lending Rates as Credit Bank Tops Deposits

Among some of Kenya’s largest commercial banks, KCB Bank Kenya recorded an average lending rate of 14.78%, down slightly from 14.79%  in July.

Equity Bank Kenya’s rate increased to 14.90% from 14.83%, while Co-operative Bank of Kenya’s rate fell to 15.01% from 15.10% in July.

NCBA Bank Kenya recorded 14.00%, down from 14.44% in July, while National Bank of Kenya stood at 15.87%, Family Bank’s average lending rate at 15.87%, and DIB Bank Kenya at 15.72%.

In addition, Development Bank of Kenya recorded the highest average deposit rate in August at 10.04%, rising from 9.98% in July.

Credit Bank PLC followed with 11.32%, African Banking Corporation Limited at 10.84%, while Middle East Bank (K) posted 9.31%.

Kingdom Bank offered an average deposit rate of 9.09%, while SBM Bank Kenya recorded 8.85%.

Family Bank stood at 8.33 %, Victoria Commercial Bank at 8.04 %, Prime Bank at 8.09%, and Commercial International Bank Kenya at 7.99 %.

Furthermore, CBK revealed that Standard Chartered Bank Kenya recorded the lowest average deposit rate among the listed banks at 2.88%, down from 3.02% in July.

Citibank N.A. Kenya followed with 4.16 %, while UBA Kenya recorded 4.41 %, NCBA Bank’s average deposit rate at 5.47 % , Co-operative Bank at 5.72% , Guaranty Trust Bank (K) Ltd at 6.13 %, and  HFC Limited at 6.16%.
