Form Four Student Dies After Alleged Bullying and Assault at School

The family of Rose Wandia, a Form Four student at Kangocho Day School, is seeking justice following her death after an alleged bullying and assault incident at the school.

Reports state that Wandia was allegedly assaulted by a fellow student , a boy identified as Mbugua, after being accused of stealing a mobile phone , leading to an alleged confrontation in front of other students.

She was allegedly slapped, strangled and beaten during the incident, with some students reportedly recording the confrontation.

Her family claimed that the incident left the student distressed and fearful of returning to the school.

Family Demand Answers Over Death of Form Four Student Rose Wandia

The family further claimed that Wandia was threatened not to speak about the incident, leaving her increasingly afraid of going back to school.

“”Rose Wandia is gone. A brilliant Form 4 girl from Kangocho Day School. Hardworking. Disciplined. The kind of child who made her mother proud.Then came the accusation. A boy named Mbugua claimed she stole his phone. What followed was public humiliation: she was slapped, strangled, and beaten in front of classmates. Some recorded it. She was threatened not to speak. She became terrified of school,”

Her mother noticed the change in her daughter’s behaviour and later found her in River Ragati after she had allegedly attempted to end her life.

However, Rose Wandia was rescued from the river, after which her parents were reportedly contacted over the incident.

“Her mother noticed the change. That Sunday evening, Rose was pulled from River Ragati after attempting to end her pain. Rescued,”

The family claimed that the matter was reported to the police, with an OB opened and a P3 form issued.

Additionally,the school confirmed the alleged assault after speaking to students who had witnessed the incident.

As a result, Rose Wandia and the boy accused of assaulting her were subsequently sent home, while her family claimed that threats against her continued.

Family Recounts Events Before Wandia’s Death

The family was reportedly preparing to return to the police station with Wandia when her mother received a call from the head teacher.

Reports revealed that the head teacher allegedly told her that the beating had not happened at the school.

Hours after the reported conversation with the head teacher, Wandia left home on a motorcycle but did not return prompting concern from her family.

During the search for her,  her sweater and hat were later reportedly found near River Ragati.

Wandia was subsequently found dead, leaving her family seeking answers over the circumstances surrounding her death.

Meanwhile, the family has raised questions over the alleged assault, threats and the events that preceded Wandia’s death.
