University Student Found Stabbed to Death as Family Accuses Estranged Lover

A 22-year-old Mount Kenya University (MKU) student, Faith Cheptoo, was found dead inside her rented house in Eldoret’s Action Estate after allegedly suffering 11 stab wounds, with her family accusing her estranged lover of killing her.

Cheptoo, a second-year Education student at MKU’s Eldoret Campus, died on August 23 after her father travelled from Elgeyo Marakwet County when he could not reach her by phone. She had reportedly promised to visit her family.

After arriving in Eldoret, her father, Luka Biwott, accompanied police officers to the house and forced entry after failing to reach Cheptoo and found her lying on the bed in a pool of blood.

“I found Faith with knife wounds. What I witnessed was that she had been stabbed on the head. I also saw wounds on her neck; there were about three wounds there. I then fainted,” said Biwott.

Family of Cheptoo Accuses Estranged Lover

Meanwhile, Cheptoo’s family has accused her estranged lover, whom they said they knew, of being behind her death.

Elkana Yanoi said the family had supported Cheptoo’s education before she met the man they now accuse of killing her.

“We sent her to school so that she could study. During her studies, she met this young man whom we know very well, but he killed our daughter Cheptoo. Therefore, we are asking the government to intervene,” said Yanoi.

Consequently, the family has urged the authorities to intensify investigations and arrest the suspect, who remains at large.

Autopsy Reveals 11 Stab Wounds

An autopsy conducted at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital reportedly revealed that Cheptoo suffered 11 stab wounds.

The 22-year-old was also a mother to a three-year-old daughter, according to reports.

Furthermore, her aunt, Lilian Kipchumba, said the family remained in deep pain following Cheptoo’s death and wanted authorities to ensure that the person responsible faced justice.

“We are in deep pain. We want justice for Faith, and we want that person arrested and taken to court,” said Kipchumba.

MKU Students Demand Justice

The killing has also sparked condemnation among students at Mount Kenya University, with student leaders calling for justice for the second-year student.

At the same time, police have intensified efforts to trace the suspect as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding Cheptoo’s death.
