An accident has occurred along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, with at least two people feared dead following a series of multiple-vehicle crashes.

Photos shared on social media show two trailers and a car involved in two separate accidents, with wreckage and debris scattered across the highway.

The accidents occurred as motorists travelled from Salama towards Sultan Hamud.

In one of the incidents, a trailer crashed into another trailer, severely damaging the front of one of the tractor heads.

People Feared Dead

Several people believed to be dead or critically injured can be seen lying on the road as members of the public gather around the wreckage to assist in the rescue operation.

The small section of the highway has further made the situation hard, resulting in significant traffic congestion and forcing some motorists to use undesignated lanes to navigate past the crash site.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the cause of the accident, as motorists are urged to exercise caution while using the affected stretch.

The latest crash adds to a growing list of road accidents reported across the country in recent days.

Other Accidents

On October 4, a multi-vehicle crash was reported at Mau Summit along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, involving a pickup, a private car and a lorry.

The accident caused significant traffic disruption, although authorities had not immediately confirmed the number of casualties.

Days earlier, two people were killed and six others seriously injured after a Dreamline bus collided with a stationary trailer near Taru and Mackinnon Road along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.

The recent incidents have renewed concerns over road safety, particularly along major highways used by long-distance passenger vehicles and heavy commercial trucks.
