Sweden is funding a Ksh 545 million programme to strengthen the Kenya Revenue Authority’s (KRA) data systems as Kenya and Sweden explore ways to deepen cooperation in key sectors of the economy.
Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo met Sweden’s Ambassador to Kenya, Håkan Åkesson, at the National Treasury to discuss agriculture, energy, environmental sustainability, and public finance reforms.
According to Kiptoo, the two officials also focused on aligning development cooperation with Kenya’s national priorities.
“Sweden is also supporting KRA’s Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence Programme under PFM reforms, at an estimated KSh 545 million,” Kiptoo said.
KRA Data System Under Public Finance Reforms
Sweden’s support includes KRA’s Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence Programme, which forms part of broader public finance management reforms.
The programme aims to strengthen how KRA collects, consolidates, and analyses data, giving the tax authority better access to information required for revenue administration and tax compliance.
The initiative is part of wider efforts to improve public finance management through the effective use of data and technology.
Sweden’s support for the programme comes as Kenya continues to collaborate with development partners on reforms aimed at strengthening public institutions and enhancing financial management.
