How to Quickly Apply for NYOTA Fund as a Youth

Share

Kenya’s government has launched the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, a multi-billion-shilling initiative designed to uplift unemployed and underemployed youth through entrepreneurship, skills training, and financial empowerment.

The project, funded by the World Bank, aims to create a pathway for young people to access sustainable livelihoods while building a culture of savings and self-reliance.

The NYOTA Project primarily targets vulnerable youth between the ages of 18 and 29 who have completed secondary education but have not yet found employment.

Persons with disabilities can apply up to the age of 35.

The programme was introduced to continue the success of its predecessor, the Kenya Youth Employment and Opportunities Project (KYEOP), which benefited thousands of youth through grants and training.

Accessing the NYOTA Fund

The application process for the NYOTA Fund has been simplified to ensure inclusivity and reach.

Interested youth can now apply directly through their mobile phones by dialing *254# and selecting the “NYOTA Project” option.

Applicants are then required to fill in their details as per their national identification cards and mobile registration.

To qualify, applicants must be Kenyan citizens within the specified age bracket, have a valid national ID, and use a SIM card registered under their name.

They must also not have benefited previously from the KYEOP program.

Once the application is successfully submitted, an SMS confirmation is sent to acknowledge receipt.

Shortlisted candidates are later informed of the next steps, which may include aptitude assessments, business training, and mentorship sessions before funds are disbursed.

What Beneficiaries Stand to Gain

Successful applicants will receive business grants of up to KSh50,000, depending on their chosen project or area of interest.

The initiative also offers technical training, certification, and linkages to apprenticeship programs that equip participants with practical skills for employment and self-employment.

According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the project also encourages participants to join savings groups such as the “Haba Haba” scheme to promote financial discipline and long-term security.

The programme is being implemented across all counties, with local administrators, youth officers, and micro-enterprise agencies facilitating awareness and registration.

In Kisumu, Mombasa, and Nairobi, hundreds of youth have already applied since the platform went live, signaling growing enthusiasm among Kenya’s job-seeking population.

A Call to Action for Kenya’s Youth

For many young Kenyans, the NYOTA Project represents a lifeline in a challenging job market.

With its promise of grants, skills development, and mentorship, the fund seeks to nurture a generation of entrepreneurs and innovators who can contribute meaningfully to the economy.
