A 55-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to defiling his daughter over several years.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed the conviction, noting that he admitted to the offence before the Senior Resident Magistrate in Kitui.
According to the ODPP, “A 55-year-old man was today convicted and sentenced to serve a 20-year jail term after pleading guilty to the offence of defilement contrary to the law.”
Authorities said the offences stretched from 2020 to 2024, leading to the victim’s pregnancy.
The man appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Hon. E. Karani, where he openly confessed to repeatedly assaulting his daughter.
The ODPP added that “The convict told Senior Resident Magistrate Hon. E. Karani in Kitui that he has repeatedly been defiling his daughter to the extent of impregnating her between 2020 and 2024.”

The prosecution further disclosed that the accused is also linked to an additional serious crime involving the death of the victim’s grandfather.
According to the ODPP, “The man similarly committed an offence of murder, where he is alleged to have killed the grandfather of the survivor victim. He was on the run until he was apprehended and presented in court.”
Despite warnings from the court encouraging him to reconsider his plea, the man maintained his admission to the charges.
The prosecution noted, “He pleaded guilty despite being repeatedly warned of what he was pleading to.”
During the proceedings, the prosecution presented evidence, which the accused confirmed to be accurate.
The ODPP said, “The facts were read and exhibits produced. He confirmed the facts to be correct.”
In a brief mitigation, he asked both the court and the prosecution to acknowledge that he had not delayed proceedings, saying he had not wasted judicial time.

Given his involvement in a separate murder case, the court ordered a mental evaluation before proceeding with sentencing.
The ODPP stated, “A mental assessment report was requested, as he is also a suspect of murder. It was confirmed that he was fit to plead.”
The case was prosecuted by Principal Prosecution Counsel Florence Njihia.
